Monkey Island field trip

Right outside of base is the ferry to Monkey Island.
William's camera.  He loves doing video (which takes up so much space!)

Looking back to base.

Saru=monkey; Shima=island.

Mrs. Parker telling us all the rules.  Wm is paying attention.  He's such a rule follower!

Here's a map of the island.  We are on the right part, where the most beach is, and the ferry comes in.  Now, we'll start up the trail.

They have paved the pathway.

Cut into the walls are different storage rooms, etc.

Apparently, there were never any monkeys here, but the Japanese used to be afraid of them, so when they wanted to make this island an ordinance place, and lookout, they named it that.

We couldn't go in, but stayed on the walkway.  Love all the moss!

This is some of the old, overgrown stairs up.

My group taking a pic of the local wildlife.

This is the wildlife.  It was on the railing.

I thought it so peaceful and pretty.  There are different paths to take.  We ended going straight, to the tunnel, versus up the stairs.

People have carved names and such into the rocks.

The tunnel, with wildlife.

More wildlife.

More rooms in the tunnel.

My group in silhouette.

The lookout tower.

You can see the round spot one of the many guns that were on the island was situated on.  Think BIG guns!

On the backside of the island, you can go down to the beach.  There are 111 steps back up...  :)

A fisherman is down on the rocks.

By this time, Wm decided he needed to be in a group with some boys!

And then they played on the sand for the rest of the afternoon!

The tide was coming in, and Wm is working on fortifying the fort.

The girls built their fort further from the beach line.  There's a tunnel that goes through!

The class having fun.

Scout Camp at TAMA HILLS

SCOUT CAMP was about 2 1/2 hours away by car.  Morning flag ceremony.
The chaos of splitting into groups.

Jacob tried hitting by going high.

Warren, with mom in the background, is having fun.

William had his own technique.

Some of the wooded hikes her beautiful.

Archery!

This is how far they had to shoot.

Wm needed some help with pulling the bow back.  See that arrow fly!

My little archer.

This lady told the story of the walking stick

At least Wm is paying attention...

She really did a great job talking how the bird had helped the man with directions (why the feather is on it).

Finally, we have fire!

One-pot dinner of mac n cheese!

The kids and the iPad.  So 21st Century!

How we put our hotdogs up to warm.

How William did his.

The night ended up with a big fire at the ampitheatre, where we had all the skits, and froze.  No pics were allowed (flash issues) and it was too dark, anyway.  Very cool night.  They retired a flag, and when we were leaving in silence, due to respect, Warren stopped and saluted the fire.  Touched my heart.

Shonandai field trip

Someone didn't request a bus... so here we wait... for almost an hour!  Serious pic...

...not serious... more later.

Jacob devil.

Bridget zombie.

Chondra ghoul.

Sometimes Fuji is visible.  It's one of those days!

Enoshima Island is in the foreground.

William and Jacob are in the front because they get car sick.  LIARS!!!  Jacob's mom ratted him out later!  :)

Shonandai Children's Museum looked so funky!

Looks like a futuristic place.

There was no water in it, but it did look really cool.

Logan using the camera to eventually check out his tonsils.

This was a music box.  You could change the tune by pulling out or pushing in the U-shaped wires.

Funky mirrors.

Wm loved the Japanese games.  This was a mousetrap one.

The balls down the wooden chutes was fun,  It's from German, but when Mrs. Parker asked if they knew where it came from William replied, "China!  All toys are made in China!"

The class photo.

They were filming a soap opera there.  This guy wouldn't let me take a pic.

But I got the production crew!
