William just kept cracking up over this. Jin might mean person.
The fruit stalls were amazing.
I should have eaten more fruit. The island has the best mangos and pineapple. The variety was huge, too!
An angry birds shop.
We were told we could get snake at this night market.
We found the food area. It was crowded, but it didn't have snake!
Some things smelled so good.
Then we were directed to another part of the market to find the snakes.
We found the pet shop! I think these might be quail. But no snake. Wm was upset. I was relieved. It was late, so we went back to the hotel.
So several days later, after Taipei 101, we got in a taxi and asked to go to the snake market. He pulled away from the curb, then stopped, and started making a phone call. The meter is running. WTF? Well, he dialed his daughter, who spoke excellent English, and had her double-check where we wanted to go, and to make sure it was the place where you could eat snake. Then he went a quick way. It was still a cheap ride all the way across town. I tipped him well for making sure it was the correct market.
This market had food as well as...
Snakes! The guy inside with the blue shirt is talking people in.
This is the type of snake we ate. We missed one being butchered about 5 minutes before we arrived. I am so happy.
The brought us venom and sex of the snake (wasn't sure what that meant, but it is the white in the glass--ewwww!) and liquor that had dead snake in it. We passed on all three.
The snake came in a clear broth.
William happily ate it, even though it was tough meat on tiny bones you're trying to pick it off of.
The had snake oil in a capsule. We took those. Burp. Ewww....
This is after one chunk is eaten.
He met his goal of eating snake!
All done!
Don't do it...
Afterwards, we went back to the wonderful restaurant Jun-yi had recommended.
They didn't have my favorite vegetable, but they did have pea shoots.
I loved the presentation of the pork.
At last, a meal I can sink my teeth into! :)
