Flowing Cold Noodle 9/30/10

This is my Japanese teacher, Reina. She is so fun! This is usually done for kids in the summer, but she wanted us to experience it. So, she set it up for us to have fun with. The white little blobs are somen noodles (wheat noodles, fairly thin, unlike udon). They've already been cooked, and cooled.
There is a dipping sauce that isn't soy, but a lighter mix. Men-tsuyu is the name of it. You also add onion, spicy peper, wasabi, if you'd like, and nori.
Her cousin made this chute out of bamboo.
You add running water, then let the noodles go in the water. Then, you have to nab them out quickly with your chop sticks. I claimed I was at a distinct disadvantage because Jun-yi grew up in Taiwan, and Reina in Japan.
Sunny and Daisy, their 2 dogs, were right at the back door watching. They weren't allowed to participate, as they probably would have gotten to eat a lot.
This is Reina's townhouse on base, not a traditional Japanese house. She is hooking up her hose here.
