Orphanage Face Painting 11/23/10

It was amazing. All morning, it stormed. We got there, and it stopped raining. This was the second time I visited Odawara Orphanage, and the second time the storm stopped right before we got there!
The BBQ we came to in September, I brought my face painting kit. Just a small one, but I wanted to use it. The Japanese kids were hesitant, but then loved it. Well, no good deed goes unpunished. They asked me back for their bazaar.
This is their bazaar. We set up 4 stations.
One of us, Angela, is actually getting her fine art degree. The was the best of all of us.
We charged ¥100 for a small cheek, and folks had brought ideas for the kids. Skulls and crossbones are a big seller.
...as is Hello Kitty. Jaye is painting Yoshi's face. She made another one like it for a little girl, who burst out crying. We asked Yoshi to come interpret (she was our interpreter that day, thank you!!!) and it turned out that she had wanted a small one on her face, about half the size of the one she had gotten. Talk about mis-communication. Jaye felt so bad, but in retrospect, it was pretty funny.
Yoshi is married to Gary, who works for PSNS. She is one heck of a gal, and a great model for Jaye's Hello Kitty.
Allie rocked the heart with wings. We loved it that adult Japanese women thought this was neat!
Allie doing another heart and wings. Even though they were popular at Disney World, nobody went with a full face one, except Allie and one of the American kids.
I had a request for Mickey Mouse. Thank heavens we had aprons with him on them, so I could copy him!
Angela had dolphins, bees, chicks. She was really good, and the kids loved it!
There were other things for sale besides food. Toys, flowers, vegetables. I'm not sure how much they raised, but it was fun to do!
